Redbridge is at an important time in its development, with a plan to review key policy documents and deliver good growth. In doing so the authority will seek to deliver on the recommendations set out in the recently completed Growth Commission and establish a sustainable vision for the borough.
Our Planning Policy roles offers you the chance to be involved in shaping policies and decisions that impact on your local community.
Since I’ve been working in the Planning Policy Team at Redbridge, I’ve been challenged to work on a variety of different projects I’ve never done before and be the expert officer on my field of interest which is sustainability and the environment. I work closely with our Sustainability Officer and am the co-lead for the development of a brand new Natural Capital Strategy. I am importantly working on the Local Plan review which will help shape the nature of development in Redbridge for the future. I am the lead officer for the implementation of Epping Forest SAC SAMMs governance arrangements and development of a new SANGs strategy designed to mitigate the harmful impacts of visitors to Epping Forest. I am also project managing the development and implementation of an improved planning obligations monitoring system for CIL and S106.
I led and project managed the first two rounds of our innovative Community Crowdfunding partnership with Spacehive to deliver NCIL funding to local community projects which was fulfilling role as I saw how NCIL money from developers was benefitting communities.
I’ve been involved in the development & implementation of our climate change action plan. I have represented our team and service at by presenting at and answering questions at both Scrutiny and Overview for the approval of new policies/governance arrangement and statutory reports by Members. I have worked with external consultants, internal and external stakeholders, attended forums and worked both within the team and with other colleagues across different teams and independently.
I have been fully supported to continuously learn and develop new skills & knowledge to help progress in my career, especially through line management and completing an Early Leadership Apprenticeship course.
I am pleased to say that I am fulfilling my career ambitions & potential with the full support of my colleagues and management working in a diverse and inclusive environment.
For anyone who wants to make a real difference to people and the planet, I strongly recommend working in planning policy so come and join us.
